North Yorkshire Photography Trip
Monday 18th - 23rd April
What a fantastic trip to North Yorkshire and I cannot thank Steve Routledge enough for all the handy tips and locations and places to visit while away, you meet some wonder people on twitter.
Anyway the weather was extremely kind to me all week and didn't require a coat once.
Day one Monday 18th I set off from Felixstowe on the 4hr 14min journey arriving in Langdon Beck, North Yorkshire at 5am where i watch 15 Black grouse fly into the nearby fields, surprisingly they were scattered all over the place and a bit too far away for any photography. Spent a few more hours in the area and I saw plenty                                           of Wildlife. Skylark, Curlew, Lapwing and Wheatear.
It was then time to check in to the Kings Arms in Reeth where I was staying for 4 Nights.
The Room was ensuite and very spacious, the staff were very friendly and helpful to. The evening meals were superb and breakfast in the morning was superb and the Ale was Lush.
The next two mornings I spent getting up at 4am, Flask filled with coffee and a packed lunch supplied by the hotel in lieu of breakfast. Then setting out to find Black Grouse Lekking, although I saw plenty flying in to sites around Yorkshire all were too distant for photography until I went to Cow Green Reservoir where I found a single Black Grouse displaying to a Female and captured some video footage.
Steve gave me a laoction for Dippers, Linton falls where I spent the day photographing them up close and personal a long with Grey and Pied Wagtails and also a pair of Goosanders.
Friday I spent the day at Low Force in search of Dippers, sadly only a flyby, but I did have fun taking photographs of the Falls and capturing a Bubble selfie, then it was time to book into the Teesdale Hotel at Middleton in Teesdale for my last night. Great hotel and a comfortable single room.
Saturday was the final day and up again at 4am for an organised event for Black Grouse with Moor House Nature Reserve Staff, We were taken to a superb Black Grouse Lek, 20 plus Males flew in followed by 14 Females and the Males got very excited, great to observe, but too distant for Photography. We then drove round Langdon beck and saw Lapwing with Chicks, Snipe, Brown Hare, Curlew, Oystercatchers, and Golden Plover, then it was time for Breakfast at the Highforce Hotel. I then had a final walk around Moor House Reserve and found a Pair of Ring Ouzels and then to Weardale Moor for Wheatears. Sadly it was now time to depart North Yorkshire and head home after a superb week.
I do hope you have enjoyed reading the Blog and following my 2022 journey and please do have a browse through the videos and Wildlife Images.
